"I never asked for this
Or planned it in advance
I was merely blown here
By the winds of chance...
Then suddenly I'm here
Respected - worshipped, even
Just because the folks in Oz Azhun
Needed someone to believe in"

Character Name: Laguna Loire
Series: Final Fantasy VIII
Age: 27
Physical Description:
Laguna has brown hair that reaches down to just past his shoulders. He doesn't exactly have bangs, but the left side flares around diagnolly from his part in some sort of bang-like look. His eyes are green and extremely expressive, and they happen to take on either a comically puzzled or slightly mischevious look when he's thinking, depending on the thoughts. Laguna's face shape is smooth and strong, though he somehow manages to still look pretty damn bish-tastic. As far as clothing goes, Laguna tends to prefer durable clothes in greens, blues, and whites that are a little less expensive and 'nice'-looking than his position would suggest.
Personality:
Laguna can definitely be a cheeseball at times, but that's only because he really cares a lot about many things- this man is practically the epitome of empathy. And because of that, he will never be found putting himself before others. Despite his occasional blond moments, Laguna is actually very good at reading people and then helping them however he can. And he's rather addicted to it as well, though if you ever said anything he'd assure you that it's a good addiction to have and that he really doesn't mind. And he rarely DOES mind. Laguna is also extremely honest, idealistic, and upbeat, along with being rather outspoken in a weirdly polite way. And to top it off, this man is a leader. He's got a knack for speaking up in representation of large groups of people without realizing that they're even watching, and therefore often gets himself into more than he bargained for with his ambition.
Strengths:
natural leader, empathetic, selfless, good-intentioned, never scared to take action, almost always willing and able to help anyone at all. And least but not least, he's one hell of a writer.
Weaknesses:
a little clueless at times, rather stubborn when he really believes in something (whether he's correct or not), absolute cheeseball, and often gets himself into more than he counted on or something that he didn't even realize in the first place
History:
Laguna was actually born into the lower class, albeit the upper half of it. Both of his parents worked modest jobs, but they worked hard and fortunately had fair bosses that recognized this and rewarded them accordingly, and by the time Laguna was in his teenage years the family was at the upper edge of the lower class. Laguna's older sister also worked when she was old enough to, but eventually married young into the upper class. When Laguna himself was old enough to work, he took the highest paying job he could get- which happened to be with Shinra. A good chunk of his time there was spent as a stenographer, as Laguna's dream was to become a writer someday and he could write very fast and accurately. But he was promoted to other, dirtier Shinra work much sooner than he would've liked.
At first, Laguna didn't quite understand the work. He honestly thought that Shinra provided some kind of insurance to many companies in the lower class, and that his job was to collect it. But it didn't take too long before he slowly came to realize that what was going on wasn't quite so friendly an agreement. He requested to have his old job as a stenographer back, but was refused. He quit soon after.
Not really knowing where to go from here, Laguna spent more and more time writing. He started a novel or two but could never manage to get them published no matter how hard he tried. He was picky about his work, also, and was never quite one hundred percent satisfied with his pieces either. About six months after quitting Shinra, his sister's husband decided that he wanted to start a newspaper called The Azhun Archives. She reccomended Laguna to him and, after an interview and seeing some of Laguna's work, he was thrilled to hire Laguna as one of his main staff writers.
The Azhun Archives' popularity spread like wildfire (since there was no single, monopolizing newspaper company before this), and Laguna had never been happier with his work. He knew that he loved what he was doing, that he was getting exposure, and that he was making almost more money now than he knew what to do with... but he never really realized quite how popular the paper was getting until he had written over a hundred articles for the thing (many of them front page pieces). And it was too late.
By too late, I mean that he had been nominated for Mayor of Azhun. Of course, Laguna was completely baffled. He had written many political articles on his opinions and proposed changes, but he had never expected for these to be any basis for a nomination for Mayor. But he decided to go along with it anyway, figuring that it might be fun and something interesting to write about- besides, there was no way he'd actually win it, anyway.
But he did. The votes have been tallied, and as of the announcement of the results that will be made on Friday the 26th, Laguna Loire will be Mayor of Azhun. Oh, boy.
